Service Description:
|
Follows the Headstart program for pre-school children guidelines * opportunities to learn, practice and strengthen the skills needed for success in kindergarten * activities to develop interests, strengths and curiosity while having fun learning * development of socio-emotional and self-regulation skills * problem-solving, creativity, pre-reading, fine motor and cognitive skills development
Activities include:
- quiet area for reading and other quiet learning activities
- art area for sensory and creative art
- housekeeping area for dramatic play
- table top area for puzzles and small building sets
- block area to build creatively while developing mathematical concepts
- discovery area set up to develope curiosity and power of experiementation
- muscle area for physical development through climbing, balancing, riding bikes, throwing balls, etc
- sand and water area to develop understanding of volume, displacement, measuing, pouring and as a sensory experience
- field trips

Fees:

Set fees * Each licensed Headstart program has full or partial subsidies for families who qualify. Parents may apply for a subsidy through the City of Ottawa Childcare Registry and Waitlist. For help applying for a subsidy, call or stop by a Headstart

Parents may make self-referrals or children may be referred by social service agencies
