Service Description:
|
Occupational Therapist assesses driving ability and safety with people with a medical condition and determines if clients have the potential to improve from driver training * assists clients with adaptive driving equipment prescriptions and altered driving techniques
|

|
Fees:
|
$900 for functional driving evaluation * other costs may be incurred for driving lessons and repeat evaluations * Fees may be covered at times by an auto insurance company if the medical condition is a result of a car accident
|

Referrals are made by a physician or physiatrist to the Admitting Department at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre by fax 613-733-8336

Eligibility / Target Population:
|
People 16 years and over whose physical, cognitive and/or behavioural impairments may interfere with the safe operation of a vehicle and driving ability * Patients who have experienced a visual-field impairment and have been Ministry of Transportation (MTO)-approved to proceed with a driving evaluation through the Vision Waiver Program
