Service Description:

Short-term structured program for males (at the time of offense), who have been detained by a court order or ordered to serve a disposition of open custody and open detention

Case management plan is developed for each youth, and includes:

regular schooling within the unit
life skills training
assessment of skills and strengths
counselling
case conferences to determine planning for discharge
Youth also participate in a social skills and life skills programming which includes sessions on addictions
sexuality
self-esteem
anger management
job search
financial literacy
goal setting
problem solving

Open residence, two purposes:

Open Custody Facility, for youth ordered to serve a disposition under the Youth Criminal Justice Act
Place of Detention, for youth temporarily detained by the court

Application:

Youth are referred to the unit by the courts, probation officers, the police or other detention/custody facilities

Males age 12 to 17 years old (at the time of offense)
