Service Description:

Nationwide, community and clinic based vision rehabilitation services * research, public education and vision health
Low Vision Services- functional assessment of visual abilities
- information and training in the use of low vision devices
- education and instruction on how to maximize residual vision
Independent Living Skills- Skills for daily living with an emphasis on maintaining independence, through self-care and communication skills
- Teach large print, braille
Children and Youth Services- comprehensive program of direct services
- information resources
- parent/peer support
- Blind-Low Vision Early Intervention Program
- advocacy training for children with vision loss and their families, from birth to school age and beyond.
Orientation and Mobility Skills- aid in using mobility tools, riding public transit, navigating new environments, finding and crossing intersections
Assistive Technology Services- assessment and recommendations
- aid in obtaining, using smart phones, tablets, computers, specialty apps, voiceover, large print, Zoom text, JAWS
- finding and applying for financial supports through Ontario Assistive Device Program
Library Services- Refer and assist with CELA with thousands of titles in Braille, print-Braille, talking books, newspaper and magazines

Fees associated with assessments done by the Regional Assessment Centre for the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) * fees for service for worksite assessments, school based assessments and treatment or other requests for private businesses * None for OHIP funded rehabilitation services, including assessments and treatments for all eligible clients

Application:

Referrals accepted from health care professionals for clients experiencing functional difficulties in their daily life related to vision loss * Referrals can be submitted online at on.visionlossrehab.ca * may self-refer but asked to have eye care professional provide recent information on vision history
